About old mirrors

When I sneak into old island houses, I always look around for mirrors hanging on the walls. Those mirrors, usually as old as the house, full of black spots and damaged near their edges, give blurry reflections that I find so interesting. They reveal a general idea of the object that they reflect; hiding all details; they frame images that are protected from time and yet look aged: A quite eternal effect that one can perceive just with a fleeting glimpse on an old mirror.

The echo of a person, of a place, when we discover it through a blurry mirror, or through an old photograph is special; because the prism of time can change the way we observe it.

This is one of my favorite Instagram pictures. I really enjoy looking at it, the same way I enjoy gazing into an old mirror. The contrast of the ephemeral setting of the white table, standing opposite the unchanging Monemvasia rock, just makes the observation of this image more fascinating.
